The bee brick is an exciting new innovation, created to be used as a standalone solitary bee hotel in your garden or in place of a standard brick in construction, creating more habitat for non-swarming solitary bees. Designed and made by us in our Cornish studio using local granite aggregate, the bee brick provides a stylish nesting site for red mason bees and leaf cutter bees, amongst others, and makes a lovely addition to any garden, allotment or building.
The bee brick makes a great gift for garden lovers, design lovers and nature lovers. It’s a wonderful way to introduce kids to bees because the solitary bees have no queen or honey to protect, meaning they are non-aggressive and won’t sting. It’s also proved a popular present for menfolk, particularly around Father’s day! A stylish lump of concrete that has a purpose!
The bee brick is a simple and stylish way to do something to help our declining bee population and can be simply placed in the garden, built into a wall or retrofitted in a few simple steps.
If you’d like more details about incorporating the bee brick into an extension, landscape project, new build, retrofit or other project please contact us for a quote and more info here or visit our commercial website HERE for more information.

Each bee brick has cavities where the bees will lay their eggs, sealing the entrance with mud or chewed up vegetation. Offspring emerge in the Spring and begin the process of nesting again, repeating the cycle.
Solitary bees are facing a dramatic decline in numbers due to disease, an increase in chemical use and habitat loss. The role they play in pollination accounts for around 1/3 of the food we eat and they are therefore a vital part of our environment. The bee brick can be used in urban spaces and places where there may not be alternative nesting sites for bees, either built into a wall or building or stood alone in a garden or allotment. Solitary bees are harmless and will not sting you unless you squash them, even then their stings are not painful, meaning they are safe to encourage around pets and children.
