Green&Blue visit from Cherilyn Mackrory MP

The Green&Blue team were delighted to welcome Cherilyn Mackrory MP to the Green&Blue workshop on Friday 8th October 2021. Cherilyn Mackrory is the Conservative MP for Truro and Falmouth and sits on the Environmental Audit Committee in Parliament.

During the visit to our Perranporth workshop, we had the opportunity to introduce Cherilyn to the Better Business Act which is a broad and growing coalition of companies and business leaders, on a mission to change UK law so that every single company in the UK makes a legal commitment within their business terms to align the interest of their shareholders with those of wider society and the environment. The Better Business Act has the support of over 700 businesses, including the likes of John Lewis, Innocent and Finisterre, and it is something the Green&Blue team are proud to support.

Our discussions also covered Cop26 and the actions and activities leading up to the event. It was great to get an insight into the workings of conferences like Cop26 from behind the scenes and the complexities of the issues being discussed.

In her role on the environmental audit committee Cherilyn plays an active part in discussing and setting environmental policy and so it was great to discuss what this means longer term, discussing things like the changing faces of building materials. We welcomed the opportunity to speak about the challenges we face, for example where planning policy specifies that new developments much make space for nature but there are no checks on whether this has happened in practise.

After the visit Cherilyn said:

Great to meet with the team at Green&Blue today over in Perranporth.

A fantastic local business with the aim of making our homes a haven for wildlife. Their products are so clever and so brilliant. From bee bricks to swift blocks.

Our environment is so important and we need to make our homes greener and more environmentally friendly.

It’s such an important year with G7 and COP26 - now is the time for change. Businesses like Green&Blue can help enable this change."
