National Nest Box Week takes place every year from the 14th to the 21st of February. Organised by the BTO (British Trust for Ornithology) the week is all about promoting biodiversity and the conservation of small garden birds and wildlife. 
The aim of National nest box week is to get as many people as possible to put up nest boxes or birdhouses in their gardens or local parks, green spaces etc. During the week people are asked to monitor their nest boxes and report their findings back to the BTO, helping to build a clearer picture of nesting activity across the UK. 
The week also aims to raise awareness of the loss of natural nesting spaces for garden birds and hence the need for manmade nesting sites. With tidier gardens and better repairs to older houses there are less and less of the places where small garden birds would once have nested. You can, and we would encourage you to, put out a birdhouse at any time in the year but this week is a great call to action to get involved.

Will birds nest in hanging birdboxes? I thought they had to be fixed onto trees or walls? Many thanks, Sarah
