As you probably know by now, we love raising money for great causes, and we also love it when we see other people raising money for great causes! So we had to share the story of Paolo, a boy who paddled from Perranporth to Polly Joke, a distance of around 4 miles, to raise money for the seal sanctuary.
Paolo is the son of Faye from the Green&Blue team and is an 11 year old boy who loves seals! He's a regular visitor to the seal sanctuary at Gweek (have you been? So worth a visit if you can!) and during lockdown, like many of us, he had a little bit of extra time on his hands. So Faye and Paolo hatched a bit of a plan to take on a long paddle and raise some funds.
And so, after a long summer with a distinct lack of suitable conditions - the family set off on the August bank holiday weekend at 7am from Perranporth beach, paddling on surf life saving paddleboards from the surf club. Paolo tells us it was hard work paddling across the long stretch of Perranporth beach but he had lots of snacks and when he reached Penhale corner and could see how close the Holywell Rocks were, it all started to feel much more manageable!
To date Paolo has raised £875 for the seal sanctuary - stretching his target three times because of the amount of support he received. He says the challenge has given him a taste for more - he's just going to decide what comes next!
Meanwhile, he's looking forward to visiting the seal sanctuary once more!
If you want to support Paolo's fundraiser you can still donate via his JustGiving page, and from all of us at Green&Blue, well done Paolo.
